When you share something with us, whether it's your address, your order or a few words about how your hair has changed, you're trusting us with it. We take that seriously. This policy explains what personal information Esther & Ruth Inc. ("Esther & Ruth," "we," "us") collects when you visit https://estherandruth.com, shop with us or contact us, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
What you share with us. This includes your contact details (name, email, phone number, shipping and billing address), order details, account information, and messages to our customer care team. It also includes reviews, stories you choose to share, survey responses, contest entries, and anything you share with us on social media. If you tell us about your hair, for example through Find Your Routine or a signup form that asks about hair concerns, we collect that too. If you refer a friend, we receive the details you give us so we can reach them. Card details are processed directly by our payment processors; we never store full card numbers.
What we collect automatically. When you visit our site, we collect device and usage data such as your IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages viewed, links clicked, the site that referred you, time on site, and your approximate location based on your IP address. We also collect information through cookies, pixels and similar technologies.
What we receive from others. We may receive information from shipping carriers, payment processors, fraud-prevention tools, social media platforms, and marketing and analytics partners.
How we use and share information
We use personal information to process, ship and track your orders; manage your account; answer your questions; and send order updates. Where permitted, we also use it to send marketing messages, recommend products and routines that fit what you've told us, and show you more relevant ads. It helps us improve our products and services, prevent fraud and security incidents, and comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only as described here:
- Service providers that help us run the business: e-commerce, hosting, payments, fulfillment and shipping, customer service, email and SMS, analytics and fraud prevention.
- Advertising and analytics partners that use cookies and pixels to measure our campaigns and show you ads. Under some state laws, this may count as "selling" or "sharing" personal information. You can opt out at any time (see "Your privacy rights" below).
- Retail or brand partners, only when you opt in, such as for a co-branded giveaway.
- Legal and safety reasons, when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our customers, Esther & Ruth or others.
- Business transfers, such as a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets.
- With your consent or at your direction.
Our store is hosted by Shopify, which processes personal information to provide and improve our store and, for certain features, may use information about your interactions with our store and other merchants. Email, texts, and cookies
You're always in control of what you hear from us. Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link at the bottom of any email, or stop texts anytime by replying STOP. Message and data rates may apply. We'll still send transactional messages about your orders and account.
We and our partners use cookies, pixels, SDKs and similar tools to keep you signed in, remember your bag, measure how our site performs and show you personalized ads. You can manage cookies through your browser settings and, where shown, our cookie preferences banner. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as an opt-out of sale and sharing where required by law. Our site does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" signals.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other US states, you may have the right to know about, access, correct or delete your personal information, or receive a portable copy of it. You may also have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information, targeted advertising and profiling; limit the use of sensitive information; and appeal a decision we make about your request.
To exercise any of these rights, visit our Your Privacy Choices page or email support@estherandruth.com. We'll verify your identity before completing access, correction or deletion requests. You may use an authorized agent. We will never treat you differently for exercising your rights.
California residents: In the past 12 months, we collected the categories of information described above (identifiers, commercial information, internet activity, approximate geolocation, and inferences drawn from them) for the purposes described in this policy, and disclosed them to the categories of recipients listed above. Under California's "Shine the Light" law, you may request information about disclosures for direct marketing by emailing support@estherandruth.com.
Retention, security, and children
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy and to meet legal, tax, accounting and fraud-prevention requirements. After that, we delete or de-identify it.
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work hard to keep your information safe.
Our site is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable), and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has shared information with us, contact us and we'll delete it.
International visitors and changes
Esther & Ruth is based in the United States. If you visit from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date. If the changes are significant, we'll let you know on our site or by email.
